We kept our computer in our kitchen on our breakfast bar, which is where we eat all meals, not just breakfast. We have three spots, four family members and a computer sits at one of them so you do the math. Computer had to go. I wanted to relocate it to the living room so I started scouring craigslist for desk opportunities.
I found this desk for free. An old sewing desk whose hole had been patched with plywood and then covered with wood vinyl flooring. Yikes. It took two trips to get it because I could not fit it in the back seat with the kids in the car. Which totally blew because it was way out in Vancouver and we went there trying to beat a torrential downpour and that mother was heavy. and I had to try to lift it myself. So anyway, I went back after I got a sitter for the kids and got it.
Brought it home, peeled that flooring off the top, sanded, sanded and sanded some more. It had been painted brown so I primed it and spray painted it blue with a white chevron pattern on top.
I am pretty happy with it. It works great for our purposes and cost me only about $12 for the paint and $8 for the chair.

For Sam’s birthday party I wanted to do some kind of photo collage to show him throughout the months because babies change so much in that first year, month to month.
I had seen how parents put little stickers on their babies and showed them with different backgrounds, or the same onesie, or numerous other things. I did not think to do this with my own kid till he was 4 months old and by then I certainly could not just start with the stickers when I knew I would be missing pictures for the few months he was alive.
So anyway, I had an idea that I could upload photos to my phone that I had taken throughout the year, run them through instagram and then label them using labelbox. This is what I came up with. It was a hit at the birthday party. My love for instagram grows and grows. So quick to edit and process photos to make them beautiful. I also have been having so much fun labeling pictures using the labelbox app.
I uploaded the finished pictures to Ritzpix.com (from my phone using the Ritzpix app) and had them printed with matte finish in 5”x5” prints. I would love to print them from a higher quality printer online but I love that I can upload them and they are ready for me to pick up in less than an hour most of the time.
Once I got them I hung up some twine and used mini clothespins to attach them to the twine that I purchased in the dollhouse/woodworking section of Michael’s.
Here are some pictures from Sam’s party. I started out getting a cake stand with dots on it from a thrift store. So dots became my theme. I bought several different fabrics with a dot print and made some bunting to hang between our large tree in the backyard and our house. I made some yellow pompons for a little decoration on the food table. Pale blue and red polka dots adorned the dinner table.
